1. What are things the child sees on his way to the fair? Why does he lag behind?
Ans: A child’s mind is easily attracted by each and everything which catches his mind. In this story also the child gets thrilled by many things which came on the way to the fair and also when he was in the fair. On his way to the fair, he was moved by the huge crowed wearing colorful dresses moving in one direction together. He saw the toys in the shops that lined the way to the fair. He also saw the beautiful mastard field that looked like melting gold with dragonfly fluttering over there. He has seen the flight of a butterfly in search of sweetness of flowers, the beautiful petals with raindrops like pearl on them. He also saw and enjoyed the sight of the gait of swan on his way to the fair. The child lagged behind, because the time he saw these attractive things he wanted to have them. But he couldn’t fulfill his desire because of the cold stare and denial by his parents. That is why, though like an obedient child, he had to move with his parents, he lagged behind because his mind wanted those things to enjoy.
2. In the fair he wants many things. What are they? Why does he move on without waiting for an answer?
Ans: Like any other child, the child also saw and wanted many things in the fair. A fair is always full of attractive things that can easily motivate a child to have them. Looking at the sweetmeat seller with lots of items, the child wanted to eat brofi, his favorite sweet. When he saw the flower-seller, he wanted to have a garland of Gulmohar. He wanted to enjoy the snake charmer’s show.
But the child moved on waiting for an answer. Though he requested his parent for those things, he knew that they would never-pay attention to his request and would never fulfill his desire. So, he moved on with his parents without waiting for an answer.
3. When does he realize that he has lost his way? How have his anxiety and insecurity been described?
Ans: When the child saw some people enjoying a ride on a roundabout, he too wanted to have a ride on it and enjoy its whirling motion. He made a bold request to his parents that he too wanted to go on the roundabout. But there was no response came. When he looked back to look at his parents, he realized that his parents were not there and he lost his way.
The author has described his anxiety and insecurity by beautifully explaining his reaction. The child looked to his front and back, left and right. He suddenly ran from where he stood, he began to cry madly in real fear. He ran hither and thither in all direction among the huge crowd shrieking at the highest pitch of his voice. His yellow turban came untied and clothes became muddy.
4. Why does the lost child lose interest in the things that he wanted earlier?
Ans: Love, care and the sense of security are the most important things for any child which they get from their parents, from family. When the child was with his parents, he wanted to have all those things that attracted him. He was very happy and excited to see them.
But the moment he realized that he had lost his parents, all those things had lost their value for the child. He was getting mad to get his parents back. Though the kind person was trying to console him by offering all those things that he desired most a few minutes back, the child sharply turns his face from those things and asked only for his parents. It is no more important to the child than his parents.

He wanted to eat burfi because burfi was his favorite sweet.
7. What did the child see along the footpath? How did he feel?
Ans: On his way to the fair, along the footpath the child saw the little insects and worms that were coming out of their hiding places to enjoy the sunshine.
The child got very attracted by the way the little insects coming in line systematically.
8. What did the child do when he entered the grove?
Ans: By entering the grove, the forgot his parents and began to gather the raining petals in his hands. But when he heard the cooing of dove he ran to his parents and the petals fell from his hands.
9. Why did the child felt repelled as well as fascinated entering into the fair.
Ans: As soon as the child alongwith his parents entered the fair, he saw many other footpaths full of people, all going towards the centre of the fair. His mind got fascinated by excitement of getting into fair but at the same time he got repelled at huge crowd that he never experienced in his life.
10. When did child get separated from his parents?
Ans: When the child saw a roundabout where the people were enjoying a ride, he stopped there by looking at them and also wanted to go on the round about. This was the time when he lost his parents.
11. Who did come forward to help the child?
Ans: A kindhearted man came forward to help the child who was crying loudly calling his parents.
12. How did the person help the child?
Ans: In order to console and comfort the crying child, the person took him to different places in the fair and offered him a ride on a horse, rainbow colored balloons, flowers and sweets but the child wanted nothing but his parents.
