1. How does Toto come to grandfather’s private zoo? (टोटोआ आबौनि निजा जुनारसालियाव माबोरै फैखो ?) 

Ans : Grandfather bought Toto from a tonga-driver for the sum of five rupees. The tonga-driver used to keep the little red monkey tied to a feeding-trough. The monkey looked out of place there. So, grandfather bought it and decided to keep it in his private Zoo.

2. “Toto was a pretty monkey.” In what sense is Toto  pretty?” (“टोटोआ मासे समायना मोख्रा” मा रोखोमै टोटोआ समायना ?) 

Ans : Grandfather finds Toto bodily pretty. He has bright sparkling eyes. There is mischief beneath his deep-set eyebrows. He has pearly white teeth which he often shows in a smile. He has quick and wicked fingers. His tail further adds to his good looks. 

3. Why does grandfather take Toto to Saharanpur and how? (आबौवा मानो टोटोखौ साहारानपुरसिम लांदों आरो माबोरै ?) 

Ans : Toto does not allow any of his companions to sleep at night. So, Grandfather carries him to Saharanpur. He carries Toto in a big black canvas kit-bag. The ticket collector classifies Toto as dog.

4. How does Toto take a bath? Where has he learnt to do this? (टोटोआ माबोरै दुगैयो? बबेयाव बियो बेखौ खालामनो सोलोंखो ?)

Ans : Toto takes a bath like a man. He would cunningly test the temperature of the water in the bowl with his hand. Then he gradually steps into the bath, first one foot, then the other. He goes neck-deep into the water. Then he applies the soap in his hands or feet and rub himself all over.

5. How does Toto almost boil himself alive? (टोटोआ गावखौ माबोरै प्राय गोथाङै गोदौ होखो ?)

Ans : One day Toto jumps into kettle. It was kept on the fire to boil water for tea. He found the water quite warm for a bath. Then the water began to boil. Toto then raised himself a little. But finding it cold outside, he sat down again. He continued hopping up. and down for some time. By chance Grandmother happened to see him and hauled him out of the kettle. Toto was half-boiled.

6. Why does the author say, “Toto was not the sort of pet we could keep for long”? (लिरगिरिया मानो बूंदों, टोटोखौ जों नआव गोबावै लाखिनो हानाय रोखोमनि जुनार नङामोन ?)

Ans : Toto causes one problem after the other. He spoils dishes, clothes, curtains and wallpapers. Their family is not well to do and can’t afford the frequent loss of these things. He also does not let others in peace. So, the author says, “Toto was not the sort of pet we could keep for long.” Therefore Toto is sold back to the Tonga driver.

Ans : Toto tore.up the ornamental paper of the wall. The peg in the wall had been wrenched from its sockets. The narrator’s school blazer was also in shreds. Surprisingly the narrator’s grandmother was amused with these mischiefs.

2. How did Toto behave with Nana, the pet donkey ? (टोटोआ फिसिजानाय गाद’ नानाजों माबोरै आखु दिनथिदोंमोन ?) 

Ans : Toto was finally accepted by his grandmother. Then he was given a comfortable home in the stable where he had a companion of the family donkey Nana. Toto caught hold of Nana’s long ears. He fastened on to Nana’s long ears with his sharp little teeth. He did not allow her to live in peace.

3. How did Toto get along with other animals? (टोटोआ गुबुन जुनारफोरजों माबोरै सोलिदोंमोन ?) 

Ans : Toto was kept in a big cage along with other animals. He did not allow any of his companions to sleep peacefully at night. He harassed the family donkey, Nana.

4. Why was Toto sold back to the tonga driver? (टोटोखौ मानो टांगा द्राइभारनो फानफिननाय जादोंमोन ?) 

Ans : The narrator’s family was not rich enough to afford the loss. of dishes, clothes, curtains and wallpaper. So, Toto was sold back to the tonga driver for nearly three rupees.

5. What did Toto do with the dish of pulao? (पुलावनि थोरसिखौ टोटोआ मा खालामदोंमोन ?) 

Ans : One day, at lunchtime a large dish of pulao was kept in the centre of the dinning table. Toto began stuffing himself with rice. He ran away with the dish when grandfather arrived. Grandmother screamed at him. Toto threw the plate at her which broke into hundred pieces.

Ans : Grandfather took Toto with him to Dehradun in a big black canvas kit-bag. When the bag was closed, there was no escape. Toto could not get his hands through the opening and the canvas was too strong for him to bite his way through.

Ans : Toto was a pretty monkey with bright eyes, and his teeth were sparkling white. His hands looked dried up but his fingers were quick and wicked. He had a lovely tail.

9. Why was the presence of Toto kept a secret from the writer’s grandmother? (ट’ ट ‘नि नुजाथिखौ लिरगिरिनि बिबैनिफ्राय मानो गुमुरै लाखिनाय जादोंमोन ?)

Ans : Grandmother always got angry and complained when a new bird or animal was brought home. So, the presence of Toto was kept a secret from her.

Ans : Grandfather had a small private zoo in the servant’s quarters. There were several other pet animals a tortoise, a pair of rabbits, a tame squirrel and for a while the narrator’s goat. 

15. Discuss the relations between Nana and Toto. (नाना आरो ट ’ट ‘नि सोमोन्दोखौ सावराय ।) 

Ans : When Toto was finally accepted by Grandmother he was put in the stable along with the donkey. But on the first night Toto bit the donkey, Nana on his long ear. Since then Toto and Nana were never friends.
